Toluene<\/strong>, is an aromatic hydrocarbon. It is a colorless, water-insoluble liquid with the smell associated with paint thinners. It is a mono-substituted benzene derivative, consisting of a methyl group attached to a phenyl group. As such, its IUPAC systematic name is methylbenzene.
\nToluene is used for paint, ink, rubber, and glue. It is also used as a raw material of petro-chemical products.<\/p>\n

Toluene, also known as\u00a0methylbenzene<\/a>\u00a0or phenylmethane, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as toluenes. Toluenes are compounds containing a\u00a0benzene<\/a>\u00a0ring which bears a\u00a0methane<\/a>\u00a0group. Toluene is a drug which is used for the removal of ascarids (toxocara canis and toxascaris leonina) and hookworms (ancylostoma caninum and uncinaria stenocephala) and as an aid in removing tapeworms (taenia pisiformis, dipylidium caninum, and echinococcus granulosus) from dogs and cats. Toluene has been primarily detected in saliva, feces, urine, and blood. Within the cell, toluene is primarily located in the membrane. Toluene is also a parent compound for other transformation products, including but not limited to,\u00a02, 6-diaminotoluene<\/a>,\u00a02-methyl-1, 4-phenylenediamine<\/a>, and\u00a0thiobenzaldehyde<\/a>. Toluene is a sweet and paint tasting compound that can be found in a number of food items such as rosemary, pepper (c. frutescens), orange bell pepper, and yellow bell pepper. This makes toluene a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products. Toluene is a potentially toxic compound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
